Would you wear Split-Toe Shoes?

Horses have hooves for a reason. We do not. But if Martin Margiela has anything to do with it, that may change. Ok, not literally - he’s not planning on changing our anatomy, but his Tabi shoes and boots, at left, have a split between the big toe and the rest of the foot, making the wearer look a bit too equine to be seen outside of the Kentucky Derby. The shoe, which has been spotted in multiple styles on SJP lately, is supposed to be modeled after the traditional Japanese Tabi shoes, but I can’t help but think of the toe-socks that were all the rage in middle school. If you’re interested in trying the ancient look, you’ll have a lot to choose from: Margiela made the style in flats, pumps, and boots, starting at $775.

But honestly, I don’t quite get it. Is it purely for looks? For fun? Is there an orthopedic function at work? Or is Margiela just horsing around ha-ha and getting the best of Hollywood’s wallet?

Joseph B. Wirthlin - An amazing Apostle of God

On 1 December 2008, Wirthlin "had gone to bed at his Salt Lake City home, and died peacefully at about 11:30 pm of causes incident to age:
Today I have been thinking a lot about how much i love the Gospel... Then it brings me to think about Joseph B. Wirthlin and what a true inspiration he is for so many people. I am taking things in my relationships day by day and starting to have more hope in all things! This man will be greatly missed! He will be able continue his great work on the other side and how wonderful will that be when our times come and we get to reunite with loved ones and friends…. It truly is a blessing. I Love our Prophet dearly and his apostles and all those under him. May we all Continue to follow the prophet and the teachings of his apostles as well!Come what may, and LOVE it!

Marriage...

I thought this was really awesome when I read it. Hope you enjoy! I look forward to this companionship!

"Do thou be wise. Prefer the person before money, virtue before beauty, the mind before the body: then thou hast a wife, a friend, a companion, a second self, one that bears an equal share with thee in all thy toils and troubles. Choose one that measures her satisfactions, safety, and danger, by thine; and of whom thou are sure, as of thy most secret thoughts: a friend as well as a wife: which, indeed implies: for she is but half a wife that is not, or is not capable of being such a friend. Sexes make no difference; since in souls there is none: and they are the subjects of friendship. He that minds a body, and not a soul, has not the better part of that relation; and will consequently lack the noblest comfort of a married life. The satisfaction of our senses is low, short, and transient: but the mind gives a more raised and extended pleasure, and is capable of a happiness founded upon reason, not bounded and limited by the circumstances that bodies are confined to...
Between a man and his wife, nothing ought to rule but love. Authority is for children and servants; yet not without sweetness. As love ought to bring them together, so it is the best way to keep them well together. Wherefore, use her not as a servant, whom thou wouldst, perhaps, have served seven years to have obtained." - William Penn.

"This is an Alaia!" "An a-What-A?"

Everyone always coos over everything Carine struts in on the Tuileries each season, and these amazing lattice/gladiator/bootie/sandals by none other than Alaia were no exception. It’s the perfect combination of boot and sandal, and the suede makes them totally wearable in winter (with tights of course).
Unfortunately, these ideal shoes are out of the price range for most - think around $1,500 - so when I spotted them on Baker’s on sale for $50, I was kind of excited. But then I realized:
1) They aren’t even real suede, so the shoddy quality won’t give them lasting power.
2) They lack the signature tan Alaia sole- more subtle than the notorious Louboutin red sole, but still a crucial element.
3) They won’t come in the amazing industrial-strength Alaia box that almost serves as a shoe shrine instead of simple casing.
4) You can pretend, but you won’t be able to have an actual Clueless Alaia moment.
I kind of wish I didn’t know the Baker’s version was a knock-off because they amazingly maintain the sexy vibe of the original, but really, it’s all thanks to like a totally important designer, so no.

Kanya Wants to be Your Intern

It's no secret Kanye West really takes this fashion business very seriously.
Not only was he very sweet about getting rejected from Balenciaga's Fall 08 show, but he's also designing a line of shoes for Louis Vuitton.
So if you work in a design house and are looking for an intern, listen up: Kanye wants a starter position at "a house," so he can put his millionaire hands to work fetching lattes and eavesdropping intern-style a la Sean Avery.
I honestly think he would be a really good intern!
